|Silencers Pressure Gauges

Regarding silencers, what does the “noise reduction: ∗ dB (A)” mean?
-
When measured based on JIS B 8379, the “noise reduction: ∗ dB (A)” is the difference between the exhaust noise without a silencer and the exhaust noise when a silencer is mounted. For example, if a silencer provides 30 dB (A) noise reduction, that means that the “silencing effect = (exhaust noise without a silencer)-(exhaust noise with a silencer)” Ex.) 30 dB (A) = 120 dB (A) – 90 dB (A), not that the sound will be 30 dB(A).
